Crabby, constipated and unable to concentrate?

Businesswoman with abdominal painsYou could have a thyroid hormone problem.

Thyroid hormone problems can cause lots of different kinds of symptoms. Sometimes people have just one symptom, but, often they have a collection of them, depending on their susceptibility. Moodiness–especially irritability–is one symptom. That’s because low thyroid function slows down your body’s ability to make important neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. Constipation is another, because thyroid hormones are needed for proper energy metabolism and muscle contractions, both necessary for the G.I. tract to move food along. And lack of focus and memory problems can be an early clue to low thyroid hormone function, for the same reason it can cause irritability. Low thyroid hormone function impairs brain function.

If you have this triad of symptoms, I suggest you check your body temperature. If it is consistently low, (below 97.8 F. (36.56 C.) chances are good you have slow metabolism, which may be caused by low thyroid hormone activity in your body. (See “How are body temperatures measured” for complete instructions.) You may have trouble converting T4 to T3. Low body temperature in the face of normal Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) levels is a condition called Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome. (WTS) Many doctors are not aware that this syndrome exists; or they discount its widespread prevalence. They certainly do not check for it.

WTS can often be corrected with proper thyroid support, which often includes a trial of T3. You can discuss T3 therapy with your doctor and we will be happy to discuss your case with your doctor. Your doctor can call 800.420.5801. The object of T3 therapy is to normalize your oral body temperatures to average 98.6 (37 C.) during treatment. Doing so can help resolve all three of these symptoms as it brings your metabolism back to normal in all the tissues in your body.
