I experienced a sudden and dramatic hair loss starting at the beginning of January. I lost 50% of my hair in 6 weeks and was in a panic because my PCP told me I was perfectly healthy and my TSH levels were fine. At the suggestion of a friend, I went to a naturopathic/holistic MD and was immediately diagnosed with WTS. I've joked all my life that I'm "practically dead" because my normal temperature, blood pressure and pulse were so low. After ten days on the T3, my hair loss slowed significantly. After 3 weeks of taking notes, my body temp went from the low 97s to mid 98s consistently. This should indicate that the T3 is working as planned. However, the past week or so, I've noticed the hair loss increasing again. Would you expect an up-and-down reaction to the T3 during the initial stages? What can you recommend for further treatment? Would a serious increase in stress undo all the good we've done so far (I'm in such a period of stess right now!)? Thank you- EL in CLT

Yes EL, The whole goal to the WT3 protocol is to get temperatures up and steady. They can be brought up with T3 but T3 by mouth can make T3 levels unsteady, which is OK because when patients wean off T3 their temperatures often remain improved and their temperatures tend to steady down. Thus, symptoms can improve when the temperature is coming up and they can come back somewhat when the temperature gets unsteady. Chapter 10 of the Doctor's Manual describes the management of unsteadiness. Yes, stress can destabilize and/or lower the temperature. Hair loss is a challenge to treat because when the symptom is gone hair can begin to grow back. When the symptom comes back it would be bad enough if the hair just stopped growing again, but sometimes some of the hair that grew back can fall out again. I don't need to tell you how frustrating that can be (yes it can feel as though it has undone the good that's been done). But just because some hair falls out doesn't mean that all the good that's been done actually has been undone. People often retain benefit from one cycle to another and therefore often need less T3 on subsequent cycles and less T3 is easier to keep steady and is less likely to result in up-and-down reactions. Sometimes people's hair grows back the best when they have finished the protocol completely and they are off the medicine. Particularly if their temperatures hold normal (since there T3 levels will be very steady since they are off the T3). Warmly, Denis Wilson, MD

I have had 3 doctors who I have tried to explain all of my symptoms and how I felt it was a thyroid problem, and all of them have just dismissed me as that they know that I don't have that problem. How do I get treatment if the doctors will not even listen?
